FRANCHISE PLAYERS
Each team has three (3) Franchise Players (FP's). These players make up $20 million of the $82 million starting roster salary cap. All three players come from their respective NHL name. The salary cap for these 3 players will drop from 20M to 15M of out the 82M the starting roster salary cap. This will go into effect as the start of the 2024-2025 season. There will be no cap penalty for the reduction from 20M to 15M on your FP's salary. You will be able to re-adjust all 3 FP's salary at the begining of the 2024-2025 when the FP's have to be resigned.
How the $20 million is distributed between a teams three FP's is up to the owner. All FP's are signed to three years, and at the end of each season FP's contracts drop a year. Every three years all FP's contracts renew for three years at the same $ amount. Once an FP has been assigned a contract that contract cannot be modified at anytime.
TRADING AND PROMOTING NEW FP's
A teams FP's cannot change at any time during the season. The only way an owner can promote a player to become an FP is if an FP is traded. If you trade a FP, and you trade back for him in a separate deal, he cannot become your FP again.
The only way an FP can be traded is if he is traded for another teams FP. However, this player does not become that teams new FP. When a new player is promoted his contract, when added to your other FP's, must total $20 million. This might mean you have to add or subtract money to his contract to make it fit. You cannot gain cap when you promote a player to FP. If you do, you must pay the remainder for the duration of the FP's current contract length.
If an owner trades an FP he/she must promote a new player to become FP by the end of the current matchup. If an owners FP is traded in reality, that owner does not have to promote an FP until the offseason.
When a new player is promoted his contract length must be the same as your other FP's. This might mean your player loses a year. If you traded for a player with a 2-year contract (and you are promoting him to FP), and your FP's have 1-year, you would have to make the players contract you a promoting 1-year.
Gaining cap explained:
For example...
You trade an FP with a contract of $6 million, and the player you want to promote has a contract of $4 million. You have to keep your acquired player's contract, and bump up your new FP's contract $2 million.

DROPPING FP's
Owners may only drop an FP once his contract expires (every three years). If an owner decides to drop an FP he must be dropped before their contract renews (all FPs renew on June 3rd), and that owner cannot bid on their dropped FP in offseason free agency. All dropped FPs go to free agency, therefore are not eligible for the draft.
CHANGING YOUR TEAM NAME
If you decide to change your team name you must promote three new FP's. Your former FP's will keep their contract and you have to bump up/down your new FP's to fit the $20 million FP cap. No money can be gained or lost while in the process of changing your team name. Also, when you un-FP players, you must make a corresponding move to promote three new players as FP's. Team name changes can only be made during the offseason.
Players who cannot become an owner's FP again:
These players were traded as FPs, and then reacquired by the owner who traded him. Other owners may make these players FP.
